Every person who has ever checked into addiction treatment and recovery training reaches a point of humility that, at least temporarily, causes us to surrender our ego and open our hearts to begin healing our past. After emerging from the fog of detox, we can start to peel back the layers of physical pain and mental suffering to uncover our Higher Power—which can only come from within—the positive, courageous energy to rise above the negative consciousness of shame, guilt, fear, anger, and pride that brought us to treatment. We transcend these to embrace the positive energies of willingness, acceptance, Love, and joy to find peace of mind. A quiet mind allows us to keep our hearts open, enabling us to project and receive Love in the world around us; rekindling the innocence with which we are born—that never changes.
For some of us, we find the strength to reach the emotional conscious levels of forgiveness, understanding, serenity, and bliss when we see these qualities reflected and projected between each other within our Recovery community. We draw energy from one another to build our strength and confidence, enough to step out of our Recovery bubble and re-enter the outside world, which is not always so positive.
Many Alumni stay sober because they stay connected to the positive energy found in recovery treatment. This keeps us strong and helps us build positive energy sanctuaries outside. Maintaining bonds with environments filled with loving kindness allows us to rewire our brains and continue developing our sober self-image, helping us ignore our addiction one day at a time until our old self-ego, substance cravings, and addiction patterns go dormant.
So, be vigilant in nurturing your plan to stay connected with your recovery community—and to find similar resources of loving kindness outside of it—to stay Aware that you are wired differently now, creating a new self-image for living a sober lifestyle.
