Meditation is not a technique, but the simple process of focusing one’s attention on what is happening with my body and mind in the present moment. To silently sit with “I”-Awareness of the temporary physical sensations and psychological situations arising in the concept that “I am” the mind and body, that will pass once the brain’s past conditioning has evaluated their significance for its immediate and projected survival. Meditation allows those thoughts and feelings to pass, without clinging or judgment, until they fade into a bodily and mindful state of peace. When all that remains is silence, and the door opens from my consciousness of existence to Awareness of my divine, spiritual Nature, the reality beyond the psychological illusion of time and space, where my spirit is boundless and eternally present. That is when enquiry can bring truthful wisdom and understanding to my conscious existence. So, in a meditative state of pure conscious being, “I am” can remember the truth of its original innocence.

Who am I?

“I” refers to the name we all use for spiritual knowing: Awareness, before being “I am” the mind full of thoughts and images, and this body of physical sensations, perceptions, and emotions. Then “I am” consciously arises and uses words to describe its experiences as “I am” this, “I am” that, and “I am” so-and-so in relationship with, but separate from, everything “I”-Awareness projects as the world that surrounds “I am.” These temporary distractions of physical forms and ethereal dreams can cause “I am” to forget its original, divine Nature.

“I” is Awareness of the eternal, unknown energy source that manifests my conscious body-mind, referred to  as “I am.”

“I” is Awareness that “I am” is consciously responsible to care for this temporary body-mind, in hopes that “I am” the mind will eventually awaken and join in understanding its unified divine Nature, to be one with “I”-Awareness in knowing the Absolute—its indivisible source!

Where am I?

“I” is spiritual knowing: Awareness, of this temporary, conscious body-mind; “I” is always right here, and it is always right now; “I” is neither born nor dies!

Why am I here: in Recovery?

“I am” consciously here to learn ways to stay sober: to avoid clinging to things outside of my body-mind, that cover up and make me forget my ever-present Awareness. So, eventually, through unattached, silent awakening, “I” can share Life-giving compassionate loving-kindness to heal the root causes that have led to—“I am”—living in addiction.

Ending the ignorance of “I am” with the wisdom of true Self-“I”-Awareness ends the suffering of “I am” feeling separate and isolated from unconditional Love.

So, “I am” here to wake up to the truth: that “I am” is created from true Love. And, when “I am,” the self-ego disappears in unity with “I”-Awareness, all that remains is the energy of constant creation—all that exists in Life is created from unconditional Love.
